Express Entry Draw History 2025–2026: CRS Cutoffs and Trends
What Is an Express Entry Draw?
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducts Express Entry draws on a roughly bi-weekly basis. In each draw, candidates ranked above a minimum CRS score receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Since 2023, IRCC has used category-based selection draws targeting specific occupations and attributes in addition to general draws.
Draw Types in 2025–2026
General Draws (No Program Specified)
General draws invite candidates regardless of occupation or language. These draws tend to have the highest CRS cutoffs (typically 510–545) and draw from the full Express Entry pool.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
CEC draws target candidates with at least one year of skilled Canadian work experience. CEC cutoffs have historically been lower than general draws, making this stream very attractive for candidates already working in Canada.
French-Language Proficiency Draws
Since 2023, IRCC has held dedicated draws for candidates with strong French language skills (CLB 7+). These draws have significantly lower CRS cutoffs — often 350–430 — making French one of the highest-ROI investments for immigration candidates.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Draws
Candidates with a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 CRS points, resulting in near-perfect scores (790–800+). PNP draws have very high cutoffs but a very narrow eligible pool.
Category-Based Draws
Since 2023, IRCC has also run occupation-specific draws targeting STEM workers, healthcare professionals, French-speaking candidates, trade workers, transport occupations, and agriculture workers.
2025–2026 CRS Cutoff Summary
| Draw Type | Typical CRS Range |
|---|---|
| General (No Program Specified) | 510 – 545 |
| Canadian Experience Class | 488 – 534 |
| French Language Proficiency | 350 – 430 |
| Provincial Nominee Program | 790 – 800 |
| STEM / Healthcare / Trade | 430 – 490 |
Key Trends in 2025–2026
More Category-Based Draws
IRCC has committed to issuing a minimum of 82,880 ITAs through category-based selection in 2025. This means candidates in targeted occupations have dedicated draw opportunities even with lower CRS scores.
French Draws Remain Accessible
French-language draws have continued throughout 2025–2026 with consistent invitation numbers (3,000–4,500 per draw). The Government of Canada's Francophone immigration targets make these draws a stable channel.
Stable Invitation Volumes
IRCC has maintained draw frequency and volumes in line with the 2025 Immigration Levels Plan target of approximately 301,250 new permanent residents through Express Entry streams.
What This Means for You
If your CRS is below 500: Focus on category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, trades), provincial nominations, or French proficiency to access draws with lower cutoffs.
If your CRS is 500–530: You are competitive in most draw types. Consider a PNP as a backup strategy to guarantee an ITA.
If your CRS is above 530: You are well-positioned for general draws. Maintain your profile and ensure all documents remain valid.

CRS CalculatorFrequently asked questions
How often does IRCC hold Express Entry draws?+
IRCC typically holds draws every two weeks, though this can vary. In 2025, there have been both weekly and bi-weekly draws. Category-based draws may occur more frequently than general draws.
What is the lowest CRS score that has ever received an ITA?+
The lowest general draw cutoff in recent years was 300 (in a special 2021 draw). In regular 2025-2026 draws, French-language draws have cut off around 350–430, while general draws range from 510–545.
Why do PNP draws have such high CRS cutoffs?+
Provincial Nominee Program candidates receive an additional 600 CRS points on top of their regular score. A candidate with a CRS of 200 + 600 PNP points = 800 CRS, which is why PNP draw cutoffs are always near 790-800.
Are there draws for specific occupations?+
Yes. Since 2023, IRCC has run category-based draws targeting STEM workers, healthcare professionals, French-speaking candidates, trade occupations, agriculture workers, and transport occupations. These draws often have lower CRS cutoffs than general draws.
